Code Enforcement Magistrate Hearing

This meeting is televised live on MCTV Channel 20 (Comcast), on Channel 99 (U-verse), and online at www.martin.fl.us/watch-mctv.

The Code Enforcement Division receives complaints from a variety of sources including citizens, businesses, staff members, and outside agencies. Staff inspects and investigates complaints to see if violation of County Code exists then begin taking appropriate steps to achieve compliance.  These steps can be either an informal and/or formal process. Cases that are not voluntarily brought into compliance may be presented to a Special Magistrate at a formal public hearing.

All adults are encouraged to participate with their children in this fun early literacy activity. Families are welcome!

Creating For a Cause

Join this informal group to stitch, knit, crochet, or craft items to be donated to local or national programs.

Bring your ideas, enthusiasm, and skills or learn new ones.  We have supplies, notions, and four sewing machines. We have projects for hand-stitching, machine-sewing, and no-sewing! We're making pillowcases for children, market totes, fidget/sensory quilts, lap quilts, bibs, bunnies and teddy bears.  Adults and teens welcome.  This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Martin County Library System, Inc.

Local Mitigation Strategy Committee Meeting

Martin County's unified Local Mitigation Strategy (LMS) provides the tools for the County, its municipalities, non-governmental agencies, and residents to continue in ongoing efforts to reduce vulnerabilities to disasters.  The LMS also provides for mitigation priorities and eligibility for mitigation funding when it becomes available.

Library Board of Trustees Meeting

The Library Board of Trustees shall have the following duties, functions, and responsibilities:

To serve in an advisory capacity to the Board of County Commissioners and the County Administration through the Library Director as follows:

(a)    Should the Library Director position become vacant, the County Administrator will provide the Trustees with the top three candidates being considered, their application and resumes. The County Administrator will solicit comments from the Trustees on each of the candidates and discuss possible rankings of the candidates prior to making a final determination. The final decision will be the responsibility of the County Administrator with confirmation by the Board of County Commissioners.

(b)    Develop library policy with the advice and counsel of the library director, especially concerning library hours, book selection, use of meeting rooms, etc.

(c)    Make continuing studies of all existing and future needs of the County in respect to public facilities and services.

(d)    Review the financial position of the library system and make reports and submit recommendations regarding sound and feasible budget financing.

(e)    Keep constantly aware of public library standards, trends, regulations, and legislation.

(f)    Formulate or recommend actions to raise the quality of service and utilization of financial assistance from state, national, and other sources.

U.S. Citizenship Class

Recommended for individuals who have submitted their application for naturalization, or who are in the process of doing so. Comfort with the English language is required. Registration required.

Study and practice for the 100 questions of the U.S. Citizenship Test, and what to expect at the interview! This class will help you understand the process of applying to become a naturalized citizen of the U.S. and provides an opportunity to study citizenship test questions in a positive learning environment. We will review the requirements to qualify for citizenship, provide information on what to expect during your interview, and introduce government resources for obtaining application materials.

Overview of Lessons:1. What does it mean to be a U.S. Citizen?  2. What are the rights and responsibilities of citizenship?3. Do I qualify to apply for citizenship?4. What does the application process include?5. Test preparation.

THIS IS NOT AN ENGLISH CLASS. The class is taught in English and participants are expected to be comfortable with English before attending.

You must take the U.S. Citizenship Test in English unless you meet one of the following requirements:A. You are 50 years of age or older and you have lived in the U.S. as a lawful permanent resident for periods totaling at least 20 years.B. You are 55 years of age or older and you have lived in the U.S. as a lawful permanent resident for periods totaling at least 15 years.C. You are 65 years of age or older and you have lived in the U.S. as a lawful permanent resident for periods totaling at least 20 years.

If you meet one of these requirements, you may be eligible to take the civics portion of the U.S. Citizenship Test in your native language. For more information on exemptions and accommodations, please visit: https://www.uscis.gov/citizenship/exceptions-and-accommodations

Camp Murphy: The Army Signal Corps in Martin County And Wwii

Learn more about this Army camp's short but important history and how the camp became a State Park. Presented by Josh Liller.

During WWII, Camp Murphy was located between Hobe Sound and Jupiter. The Southern Signal Corps School trained thousands of soldiers in the new, secret technology of radar. After the war, the camp became Jonathan Dickinson State Park. This Chautauqua South event is sponsored by the Friends of the Martin County Library System, Inc.
