Why is there a change?
Our book club collection has become quite popular, we have over 60 private groups who use our special book club collection. We know what we are doing works but with so much use, we decided to review our service to book groups to see if we could offer improvements and enhancements. After doing some research and learning from other libraries who provide book club services, we have decided to update our book club service to our community.
What is in a Book Discussion Kit?
Each Kit includes 14 copies spread between two (2) tote bags (7 copies in each tote) and all the tools you need for your group to have a lively and well organized discussion. The kit includes a sign out sheet for group members, an evaluation form, biographies, discussion questions, and recipe that complements the book.
How do I request a kit?
The Library uses myTurn to schedule our Adult Literacy, Story Express, STEM kits, and now Book Club Kits. The myTurn website allows you to browse and schedule titles for your group 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Your book group may prefer to have one person schedule the reservations each month or share it among a few members. Anyone with a valid Martin County Library card can schedule titles for the group. Visit the myTurn site to plan get familiar with it. For readers’ advisory services to help you select a title, see our NoveList Book Club Resources or please call your local library to talk to our public services staff.
What about my existing book club requests?
If your group currently has titles scheduled, we will contact you to schedule these titles into myTurn. To allow us time to manage the final steps of the transition, we will not be scheduling titles in August. Reservations will begin in September in myTurn.
Borrowing the Book Discussion Kit and distributing books to your group
The person who reserved the kit will pick it up at your preferred branch location. The kit will be checked out on the library card that was used to make the reservation and that person can distribute the copies to the group members. Each Book Discussion Kit will be checked out for six (6) weeks. You can return it early if you finish before the due date. The tote bags have all the tools you need mentioned above. This includes a sign out sheet to help your group know who has which copy.
Returning the Book Discussion Kit
Anyone can return the Kits, but they must be given to staff inside one of our six branch locations. Staff will check the kits and finish the return process. All contents of the Book Discussion Kit must be returned at the same time. Please reach out to staff if something is missing, we are happy to assist in resolving an incomplete Kit.
